The Effect of Androgen Deprivation Therapy Before Salvage Whole-gland Cryoablation After Primary Radiation Failure in Prostate Cancer Treatment. By Li et al. 2015
Key sentence from the paper: “The administration of ADT on recurrence of prostate cancer after primary radiation therapy and before definitive local salvage cryotherapy was associated with a worse 5-year [biochemical progression-free survival].”

Commentary: Suppose you have had radiotherapy for prostate cancer with the intent to cure, but your PSA keeps climbing. There are no imaging data to suggest that you have metastasized disease (prostate cancer cells spread outside the prostate), so you decide to go for a local salvage therapy, specifically cryoablation. Would it help to do a course of ADT before the cryotherapy? This paper suggests adjuvant ADT does little to enhance the effectiveness of salvage cryotherapy.
